Coen Brothers short film "World Cinema"
"Chacun son Cinéma" projesi kapsamında ilk gösterimi 2007 Cannes Film Festivalinde yapılan Coen kardeşlerin kısa filmi "World Cinema" buradan izlenebilir.

Joel Coen: Evet.

The Theatrical Release in England

Climates is opening in the United Kingdom on February 9, 2007 by the famous English company Artificial Eye. Here are some quotes from the fantastic press reviews :

"...the work of a film-maker who has established absolute mastery over his cinematic idiom; it does not trade in miserablism, but a kind of degree-zero clarity about the potential for alienation and anguish in our secular faith in romantic partnership. This is the dark side of love, and it is examined with fierce, cold brilliance..."
Guardian

"As an actor, Ceylan has a lugubrious onscreen charm, but as a director he’s not interested in portraying himself in a flattering light... Minutely observed, painfully honest and acutely perceptive, this is a mournful masterpiece..."
Times

"...this excellent new film proves he’s now one of world cinema’s most confident and impressive young(ish) filmmakers... It’s the best film of the year so far by a long stretch..."
Time Out

"...It is absolutely riveting and painfully honest. This movie is art house angst in its purest form, but I cannot imagine anyone, anywhere over the age of 30 failing to find Climates deeply affecting."
Observer

"Ceylan's stab at acting is very impressive, but it's as a photographer that he affects us most - or rather as a photographer and user of soundtrack, since sound is what one tends to experience first when watching a Ceylan film..."
Sight & Sound

"No doubt there will be critics who dismiss this as simply art house fare. If that means that they have to take their brain along, so be it. They might realise their own cinematic constraints... Of course it's irritating and exasperating - that's its purpose. At least Ceylan creates some memorable melancholia while trying to jog us out of our emotional inertia..."
Morning Star

"This is exceptional film-making..."
Evening Standard

"In the quest for the melancholic soul of his native city, he has discovered new symbols for the clash and interlacing of cultures." This is how the Swedish academy described Turkish author Orhan Pamuk when he won the Nobel Prize for Literature at the end of last year, but it applies equally to his compatriot, Nuri Bilge Ceylan..."
Little White Lies

"Turkish filmmaker Nuri Bilge Ceylan steps out in front of the camera for his brooding examination of relationships — proving himself a leading world director..."
Dazed & Confused

"Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan has earned a reputation as one of the great hopes of international arthouse cinema. His films bring a fresh sensibility to the kind of subject matter that might once have fascinated Antonioni or Bergman..."
Scotsman

"Ceylan is undoubtedly one of the most distinctive filmmakers to have emerged in recent years..."
Time Out

"...The film sets out to capture the mood of a man no longer sure of what he wants. Indeed, as a work dedicated to showing the contrary nature of human behaviour, it's remarkably well observed...."
Film Review

" Rarely has HD imagery matched the beauty of celluloid... It all captures Robert Bresson's sense of the melancholy that envelopes a largely helpless humanity..."
Empire

French Release

Climates is opening in France at 57 cinemas by the prestigous French company Pyramide, (founded by Louis Malle and Fabienne Vonier) in January 17, 2007. The director' previous film Uzak had also been released by the same company and the figures were good with a result of 150,000 admissions. For the "CLIMATES", the figures for the first week is slightly better than Uzak. We will see the final results later.

The reaction of the French press for the film is absolutely marvellous. Both Le Monde and Liberation put the film on the front page! Here are some quotes:

US release

Climates is opening in the USA on October 27, 2006 by the American company Zeitgeist Films, starting in New York followed by the other territories.

"Nuri Bilge Ceylan is, as it also happens, a fine actor.. The mysteries of his work are those of the heart, the head, the soul.."
New York Times

"Gorgeously, immacutely constructed, the film is a quiet stunner, and for me, most likely the best movie of the year.."
Indiewire

"Ceylan and his wife play the lead roles. Amazingly, both performances are superbly wrought examples of understated ambiguity and nuance.. What makes the film so effective is the way it communicates the relational dissolution almost uniquely.."
Film Journey

"A terrific movie in the Antonioni tradition, Climates confirms 47-year-old Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan as one of the world's most accomplished filmmakers—handling the end of a relationship and the cloud of human confusion rising from its wreckage as if the subject had never before been attempted.."
Village Voice (New York)

"Breaking Up Never Looked So Beautiful.. Captures the impulsive and counterintuitive behavior that is often a byproduct of an uncertain relationship. The chemistry between himself and his wife is palpable. He takes full advantage of his brooding sex appeal while Ms. Ceylan exudes a broad-faced beauty that her husband captures exquisitely…”."
New York Sun

"A poignant, yet hard-edged modernist melodrama! Shifting effortlessly between his characters’ outer and inner realities with a novelist’s omniscient aplomb.”
New Yorker

"Brings to mind Antonioni at his peak! Moments like the two-minute shot of a woman quietly weeping are sublime enough to sustain the belief that you’re watching a cineaste in full command of his art.”
Time Out NY

"Climates caught me by surprise and simply blew me away.. One of the greatest breakup films of all time..."
Filmbrain

"An austere, haunting portrait of a break-up that uses the seasons of the year to reveal the characters’ often unstated emotions. Seemingly simple, the film’s stunning visuals and unusually expressive sound design reveal a far more complex, thoughtful work lurking beneath its minimalist narrative..."
